  2. Cathy says:

My exact sentiments! I’m a college senior and well, this is my last Christmas vacation. I feel so old, 😦

    • MK says:

Same! It’s scary to think we won’t have such long breaks next year 😦 You just need to enjoy it while you can.

    • Brookie B. says:

I’m a college senior too! I can’t believe this will be the last time I will have an entire month off for Christmas 😦 we need to definitely cherish the last of our leisure time!

      • I was just saying I think we shiuld have a four day weekend once per month. People would be so much more productive and less stressed. Now in the US we have the long stretch of SIX months with no paid holidays for most workers! By the time we have another long break, half the year will be gone. Funny and so true!!!

    • shortly you will be feeling like the so young when you get a job and all people will be older than you!!!

    • straightpath12 says:

Don’t feel old. I wish I was where you are. I still have spring, summer, fall, winter, and then spring classes until I graduate in 2013. Congratulations to you on graduating this upcoming year.

  3. Rob Rubin says:

    I guess I’m in between college and work, since I don’t go back for 10 days…and I’m 36.

  4. There are SO many things to miss about college — but this is the biggest one of all!

    LOVE IT!

    🙂

  5. Abigail says:

In the midwest, Christmas break (Yes, it is still called that.) is only about two weeks long. We get off on the 14th and head back on the 3rd for private schools. Public schools go a week longer. Some schools have what is J-term, where you can take a class during January and if you don’t, then you get seven weeks off. Still nothing compared to working though.

    • rkwe says:

Our midwestern school is apparently ahead of the curve, calling it “Holiday Recess” and giving us from 9 December to 9 January off.

  6. In Sweden everyone working has the right to 5 or 7 weeks of vacation per year!

  7. 4 is lucky.

This will be my first year not working retail, just my day jobs (until now I worked both)

That meant, working late on Christmas eve for the last-minute shoppers, and being right back to work the day after Christmas for the return rush.

Ugh. Do NOT miss it. I’m very pleased and thankful for those 4 days off.

(I worked retail when I was going to college too, so no vacation there either, just picked up more hours during the break)

  8. Leah says:

Classic! Or you can be like me and work on a college campus, we close for an entire week around Christmas! Not a bad compromise.

  9. Wait! What? He get’s four days off? Christmas in on the Sunday, we’re expected to be back to work on Monday, and no, I don’t work retail, I’m in public accounting. *sigh* Merry Christmas everyone.

  10. Im an undergraduate senior who worked for Marriott International for about 7 years, so I know this to be true. I may have had two weeks vacation but I never took it all at one time!

  11. pnwauthor says:

And for independent contractors and entrepreneurs, see you in a few hours.

  12. & if you’re the “mom”, especially the “stay at home” variety, its a working holiday….. at 3:15 today I begin the countdown towards when the little ones go back to school !

  13. Ammon says:

I would laugh more if it didn’t also make me want to cry.

  14. Still nothing compared to working though.

  15. Cat says:

So true! Congrats on being Freshly Pressed yet again!

  16. Casey_Leigh says:

This is what I get for starting to blog in high school…this is a reality that I do not want to face…or really know about…ugh the world is cruel…

  17. Anonymous says:

4 days you get 4 days?

  18. So true! Thanks for sharing a laugh!

  19. Hahaha I’m a college senior and just yesterday came to the realization that this may be my last month long winter break! Gah!!!

  20. John Cook says:

    This made me miss college…

  21. onesterova says:

That’s so true. One of the best things we’ve had in college. Yet as we think of the professors out there – “their college world” is way different…

  22. Yeah…But those four days are a dream come true 😀

  23. But mainly in America…

  24. shesaidthings says:

ugh. i have a lot of friends still in college… and i envy them for now being on winter break… while i’m here slaving away in the corporate world. *sigh.

  25. biscuitbarbarian says:

Oh just got christmas break yesterday, starts again the 11th January XD. Oh and I still in “high school”… in Sweden. Mom is still working the days. Well well, Merry Christmas ^_^.

  26. johenna says:

In Germany we are off for two weeks. It’s called “class free time”, but we still have some stuff to do, deadline first day back to college. Also we get only six week in summer.

  27. alohagirl612 says:

So true! Except if you work in a school setting. Then you get two-three weeks off 😀

  28. wildstar84 says:

soooo sadly true! Congrats on FP!

  29. bensten says:

There is one solution to this conundrum–become a teacher! : )

  30. kimxrn says:

No kidding! I almost miss being in school for the long holidays off. Real world and shift work suuuucks 😛

  31. eyeLaugh says:

    OMG huh. Gross.

  32. And my husband won…he became a professor LOL

  33. hottandtight says:

I need the whole month just to recuperate from last semester.

  34. Vincent Clarke says:

I’m in my last semester in college and internships mean I only have Christmas eve for a vacation. Love this post.

  35. E.H. Redlum says:

Can’t wait to get to college to experience that…9 days in high school isn’t quite enough!

  36. Yatin says:

You’ve get go back to work in four days in order to pay back that college loan.

  37. Holiday don’t even exist for the private workers. Last time i saw my brother home, he had a fractured leg and 33 stitches.

  38. Wow… gonna miss long vacations. Bye2 college… h-hello real world? Ugh!!!

  39. heart4all says:

yeah……… I miss my Collage Vacation days and my Friends …………
Very Happy Christmas and A New year

  40. yeah T T one month what can I do with it ?

  41. kamielverwer says:

see “you”, who even is “you”? i can’t distinguish the festive from the rest as a freelancer lol.
    ….
means i’m working straight through it 🙂

    MERRY X-MASS

  42. passiondrive says:

I think I’m a little more depressed that that second one has been what my winter break has been since starting college. Oh the life of a working college student.

  43. I certainly miss my college/university days.

  44. gray says:

so true… this is also considered as my “last Christmas” as a senior college student (-_-)”
i like the drawings! cool! 😀

  45. booksfan13 says:

i am in 9 grade ( still a kid) and only get a week vacation.

  46. Naveeka says:

Lol, and winter vacations for mom. See you in a while!!

    http://www.dubaimumz.wordpress.com

  47. If you work for yourself (and can manage it), you can actually take time off, and a long time…which is is an argument for not “getting a job.” I value my time off more than $$$$ and take off as much of it as I can afford. The most successful freelancers find a way to combine leisure and work, adventure and routine. My web designer moves from NYC to Buenos Aires for four months every winter, which inspires me!

  48. Brings back the memories!

  49. MissLauraC says:

Precisely the reason I became a teacher.

Oh yeah, and kids are alright I guess.

  50. Michael says:

I miss college too! I want to go back!

  51. logyexpress says:

Not having a month off at Christmas (tough call between this and getting up early!) was the hardest thing about transitioning from school to work. This year I banked a bunch of leave and I’m taking 2.5 weeks off and I’m pretty jazzed about it.

  52. Av says:

    that’s funny..true and funny..

  53. That is seriously going to suck. Why do we have to grow up?

  54. That’s about right. Thanks for sharing. Connie

  56. Ive got exams so much for a holiday 😦

    mindlesslog.wordpress.com

  57. puffylea says:

but there’s a lot of homeworks given to us on our holiday plus …. need to go back for extra lesson , club and stuffs !!!

  58. If I can get 4 day vacation in Taiwan…that would be a miracle. 😀

  59. Jayant Raj says:

    Merry Christmas!
    Ho! Ho! Ho!

  60. sg0270 says:

Im in college in California and the college only gave me a week and a half for christmas break.I would gladly want to have a good christmas break but you cant really have everything…. especially in this tough money crisis.

  61. mj monaghan says:

Your comic speaks truth so simply! Great job!

  80. Ramu Nair says:

First of all, congrats for being freshly pressed.
Loved your cartoon, the third one should be like “See you on Monday”, “At offshore” 🙂

  81. Danielle says:

How about see you in TWO days! The downfalls of Christmas falling on a Sunday…

  82. bohemiofilosofico says:

ohh sorry. In my country we have 3 weeks on winter vacation.
in the work we dont have vacation only 24 and 25 . 31 and 01 no more.
my country is Argentina. south america

  83. 1so1 says:

    Congrats !
    So true …

  84. P.A.Z. says:

And for the unemployed, recent college grad?

  85. Almost all of us as http://www.uckconceptart.wordpress.com miss the long vacation that was college. Including those official “and long” vacations that came with it. Being an artist is so much work!! Whatever you do though, don’t visit our website. It’s really new and we haven’t been doing a good job of filtering our content… There’s a lot of awe-fullness there.

  86. Ketty Mat says:

    My friend just told me a nice place. ____【T’ a” l l m’ i n ‘g ‘l’ e.C ○ M】–_____ it’s the most effective site in the world to connect with, date and marry tall, and big people.. It’s worthy a try. ____【T’ a” l l m’ i n ‘g ‘l’ e.C ○ M】–_____

This year I banked a bunch of leave and I’m taking 2.5 weeks off and I’m pretty jazzed about it
I’m in my last semester in college and internships mean I only have Christmas eve for a vacation. Love this post.

  88. sio orient says:

the poor people in hospitality often don’t even get xmas day off. you can always leave your job and have a huge holiday anyway.

  89. I went to college while I was working full time, so I never really got one of those breaks after high school. Now, I work for an organization that pays you your accrued vacation on the anniversary of your date of hire. That way, you don’t actually get paid when you take vacation. And we max at 3 weeks (and I have 27 years in the company).

  90. gaycarboys says:

truer words were never said. I never went to uni/college and school was a very long time ago, but you’re right about the holidays. They get shorter the older you get.

  91. I’m working and I cant leave even 1 day. How poor I am. 😦

  92. …i am 12 years old, but my vocation is not a month… :*(

  93. natasiarose says:

    I miss college so bad!

  94. Ranz says:

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I miss college more now!

  95. Haha- so true! Enjoying my college break. 🙂

  96. lynale says:

work-wise, it would not be too bad if vacation and floating days are saved for winter time, or the year end.

  97. dressupforme says:

For us there is no college = no one moth long vacation. I live in Lithuania and I am serious 😛

    Winter Wonderland

  98. Joe Labriola says:

Clever! But unfortunately my winter breaks were spent picking up shifts and winter courses so not exactly a break at all!

  99. joahnadiyosa says:

hahahahahhahaha!!! This got me in to a lot of laughing! I can totally relate! And yes, sadly, when someone starts working, no more long vacays.. no more “See you in a month” thingy.. Ouch! I haven’t recovered from my hang-over from Christmas yet here I am in the office again.. thumbing on reports… fiercely pressing on my keyboards.. writing articles.. and the list could go on like forever! Ahhh! Anyways.. happy holidays still! 🙂

  100. archijeca says:

    hahaha, true!

  101. Anna says:

I had to laugh out loud. This cartoon definitely nailed the contrast between college days and working days. I suddenly miss being in college! 🙂

  102. john says:

This will be my life one day. haha #CorporateAmerica

  103. Hafsa K says:

    Haha..So true!
    Congratulations on being FP 🙂

  104. Joe says:

If you get four days at all! For the last 10 years, I’ve worked the Friday before Christmas and the Monday after Christmas. 8 of those years were in the military, and you worked if you were scheduled, no ifs, ands, or buts. Now as a civilian, I work in a technical support department that works 24/7/365. So unless you have the time to take off, you work.

Very funny pics though, and very true.

  105. cute and scarey … ~~~ : – )

  106. hahaha…more than this particular post…i love your header image!!!its just so so hilarious, and sadly true!!!

  107. Andrew says:

Four days?! That’s practically a sabbatical for me and others who work in retail. Two days is a decent break. Most places are open 26th so some people just get a measly day off.

Man, I am in the wrong profession 🙂

  108. D.A. says:

    Cute comic 🙂

  109. cbowiephoto says:

We have this so screwed up. Wish I was still in college!

  110. First off, let me say, “All Hail to the retail workers!” That’s an unappreciated and demanding field to be in! Secondly, to http://cbowiephoto.wordpress.com/, we do have it screwed up. Those with the energy and optimism of youth get the time off, while those of us who could use the time off, it’s hard to come by.

  111. tmastgrave says:

HAHAHA! I’m a college professor, so I still get a Christmas break. I just don’t get paid for it…and I wind up have to work over it anyway…why was I laughing about this again?

  112. Sheherzada says:

wow that guy gets 4 days???? I’m Jealous!

  113. monicafay says:

haha exactly! i had the same sentiments about my bathtub. as a child, it was a huge basin of water to play in and swim away from sea creatures, now im cramped and hateful as i try to “relax”
maybe you could draw a cartoon for me for it?
    http://monicafay.wordpress.com/2010/12/20/18-bath-tub/

  114. offthemesh says:

So true, but we do get PAID now….

  115. Chaks says:

i would say, you are very lucky even if you get 4 days of vacation 🙂

  116. masterginger says:

haha, so true. the best part is that i work at a college, so i have 4 days, but all of the students with whom i work have a full month. walking onto an empty college campus to do work while everyone else is free just pours more salt in the wound of adult-o-lescence!

  117. That was me, 4 days. Most of my coworkers though took 2 or more weeks.

  118. YYNE says:

YAY i am having winter break haha! =P

  119. amberpat says:

Yea I’m on winter break working, while being on break from working. College life! 🙂 1coffeehouse.wordpress.com

  120. I guess it depends on what you do, where and who you work for. I remember the first job I had – I wanted to stay there forever. Why, employees who had 5 years in had 5 weeks of vacation time – people would disappear for a month and when they came back you I would think… “You still work here?”.

  121. trialsinfood says:

oh so true. sadly, i’m in the working world.

  122. lol great post and its sad but true 😦 lol

  123. kathrinjapan says:

Once You Have Kids, you don’t even get weekends.

  124. I work in special ed so I am off until the 9th of Jan, my husband hates me LOL

  125. Fab says:

Sounds about right. Oh, and then there’s drinking responsibly. Did you know it’s possible?

  126. varneerski says:

Dang, all I can think is… dang. I should have enjoyed my time off more in college. I am on my last winter break.

  127. theboguspundit says:

    Reality right here. haha!

  128. So true. And so depressing. There must be other people besides students who take this week off though. My usually busy commuter bus has had maybe ten people on it all week.

  129. Haha, I love this so much because I’ve experienced both sides of it. I’m currently a junior in college, so I still have quite a long time of breaks and holidays left. But I also work as a freelancer, and in that case, I know exactly how short the time can be before you meet someone again, sometimes as short as an hour.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and congratulations on being Freshly Pressed! 🙂

    Ashley

  130. ennospace says:

Wow!! Great draws!! I miss my one month vacation! It was so happy!!

  131. Aww the joys of being an adult.

  132. needtotaste says:

Oh dear, this is why I’m reluctant to commit to a full-time job! 🙂

  133. You get a whole month! Here in England we get two weeks!

  134. mariajulianne says:

I’m gonna miss long vacations again after I graduate college.

  135. B says:

While college breaks of such length were great and everything, I’m of the opinion that a long weekend a month and at least three to four full weeks of vacation a year would be sufficient and would do everyone a world of good.

I’m also a strong advocate for the four-day work week, given that we are expected to do so much in a seven-day period, between both our work and home lives.

  136. vandysnape says:

When I was little , I was so jealous of my dad going to office at flexi-timings. But now I know better 🙂 Nice post !

  137. SaraPey says:

Ahah, well I’m still in college and I only have 2 weeks off, where I actually have to get all the semester’s work done! I’m so damn happy 🙂

  138. leadinglight says:

Poor Americans. I’m so sorry for you. We lucky Australians get heaps of public holidays!

  139. Joel says:

Reblogged this on kleinerprophet and commented:

  140. This would be hilarious if it wasn’t so depressing. 😛 Oh well, I guess I can still gloat – I’m only a high school student, after all.
    Nice post!

  141. asoulwalker says:

Happy New year (unenthusiastic hand motion here).

  142. shinobiswordsman says:

I guess I have it easier, since I’ll be teaching. I figure I’ll get about 2 weeks off

  143. Ona Waffle says:

I work in retail and got a whole half a day free for christmas, yes a full 4 hours!

  144. Haha…love it! I do miss those college vacations. I don’t even get 4 days. In fact, I’m working today to catch up on business-y stuff 😦

  145. AWSEOME Hey could you please check out my page..
